القطعة عبارة عن عتب باب كانت تعلو بوابة في إحدى الغرف الواقعة في الزاوية الشمالية الغربية من قصر أم الوليد الأموي. تغطي واجهة العتب طبقة من الجص حفر عليها بالنحت البارز صورة فهد يطارد غزالاً. تذكّرنا هذه القطعة بأنواع الحيوانات التي كانت تجوب المنطقة خلال الفترة الأموية، و كانت تشارك في لعبة الصيد التي كان يمارسها البلاط الأموي كنوع من التسلية. وتترك هذه القطعة لدى الناظر انطباعاً قوياً بصفتها لوحة أكثر من كونها نحتاً على الحجر.

عارضة كانت ذات يوم تُزيِّن قمة بوابة أحد القصور الأموية، في أم الوليد. والمشهد المُنفَّذ بالجصِّ النافر الخفيف، يصوِّر فهداً يطار ظبياً، تذكيراً بالحيوانات البرية التي كانت منتشرة في الأرياف، أيام الحقبة الأموية.

طريقة تأريخ القطعة وطريقة تحديد أصلها:

تدل القطع الفخارية والأدوات المعدنية (البرونزية) التي عُثر عليها أثناء التنقيب في الموقع على أن القصر في أم الوليد يعود إلى العصر الأموي، وبالتالي نسبت العتبة إلى تلك الفترة.

طريقة اقتناء المتحف للقطعة:

تم اقتناء القطعة من قِبَل المتحف من خلال الحفريات الأثرية التي جرت عام 1996 في موقع أم الوليد، على بُعد 15 كم جنوب شرق مدينة مادبا، حيث تم العثور على قصر ومسجد.

طريقة تحديد مكان صنع القطعة أو العثور عليها:

حدِّدت أم الوليد مكاناً لصنع القطعة، لأنه تم العثور عليها أثناء التنقيبات الأثرية في أم الوليد.

Aida Naghawy is an archaeologist and the Director of Jordan Archaeological Museum. She studied archaeology at the University of Jordan where she gained her MA. She was affiliated to the Jordanian Department of Antiquities from 1974 as a curator of Jordan Archaeological Museum. In 1981 she became inspector of Jerash antiquities and co-ordinator of the Jerash International Rehabilitation project. She was also head of the archaeological awareness section at the Department of Antiquities. Aida is the author of numerous publications on Islamic coins. She has carried out excavation work in Jerash and is the founder of Jerash Archaeological Museum and the Islamic Museum of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

Ghada Al-Yousef is an archaeologist and the Director of the Friends of Archaeology Society in Jordan. She studied at the University of Jordan from where she received her BA and MA in Archaeology. In 1993 she undertook a course in the restoration and conservation of ancient mosaics held by the Italian government in Jordan. She was affiliated to the Jordanian Department of Antiquities from 1994 to 1997 as a trainee in the restoration of ancient mosaics and the production of modern mosaics at Madaba Mosaic School. In 1995 she opened her own gallery and workshop for producing mosaics. She was appointed as the Director of the Friends of Archaeology Society in 2001. She has carried out excavation work in Amman and Madaba.
