وصف:

الوعيرة أو وادي موسى كما وُصفت عند الفرنجة واحدة من عدة قلاع شيِّدت في البتراء وما حولها سنة 508 - 509 / 1115 - 1116من قِبَل بلدوين الأول - ملك مملكة اللاتين في القدس. تتخذ القلعة التي شيِّدت من كتل حجرية من الصخر الرملي شكلاً مستطيلاً غير متساوي الأضلاع تتراوح أبعاده ما بين 100 م طولاً و 65 - 80 م عرضاً. يعود السبب في عدم انتظام شكل القلعة إلى طبوغرافية المنطقة، فالجدران المحيطة تتبع في امتدادها الهضبات الصخرية الناتئة. يدعم الجدران المحيطة مجموعة من الأبراج الصغيرة، ويقع أحد البرجين الرئيسيين في منتصف الجدار الشرقي والثاني عند الزاوية الشمالية الغربية المطلة على وادي الوعيرة. كان الدخول إلى القلعة يتم عبر نفق حُفر في الصخر الرملي ورُبط بجسر أقيم فوق وادي الوعيرة. يحتل الزاوية الشمالية الغربية كنيسة صغيرة مسقوفة بقبو برميلي، أبعادها 14 X 7 م.

كانت القلعة واحدة من المنشآت والأبنية التي شيِّدت لحماية الموقع، وكانت تشتمل على جدران طويلة، وأبراج مراقبة، بالإضافة إلى عدة خزانات مائية حُفرت في الصخر الرملي. كان الغرض من بناء هذه القلعة والقلاع المعاصرة لها في الشوبك والحبيس داخل البتراء حماية المنطقة الواقعة جنوب شرق البحر الميت، وإعاقة قوافل الحج والتجارة التي تنتقل ما بين سورية ومصر والحجاز.

انتهت سيطرة الفرنجة على القلعة سنة 584 / 1188إثر سقوطها بيد جنود صلاح الدين الأيوبي قبل فترة قصيرة من سقوط قلعة الشوبك. أدخل الأيوبيون تعديلات بسيطة على القلعة، لكنهم لم يضيفوا إليها أي بناء مهم.

كانت قلعة العيرة؛ "عجل موسى" حسب التسمية الفرنجية، جزءاً من نظام الدفاع عن البتراء، الذي أسَّسه بالدوين الأول، ملك مملكة القدس اللاتينية، في عام 509 – 510 هـ/1115 – 1116م. جنباً إلى جنب مع قلعة الشوبك، الواقعة على بعد نحو 34 كم إلى الشمال، وفَّرت تحصينات البتراء للفرنجة قدراً من التحكم بالمنطقة المُمتدَّة جنوب شرق البحر الميت، وعطَّلت الصلة التجارية والعسكرية بين سورية، ومصر، والحجاز. ما لبثت قلعة العيرة هذه أن سقطت بيد قوات صلاح الدين في عام 84 هـ/1188م، بُعيد سقوط الشوبك. ليس ثمَّة أيّ إنشاءات أيوبية رئيسية في القلعة، التي شُيِّدت على امتداد جروف صخرية رملية طبيعية، شديدة الانحدار.

طريقة تأريخ المبنى:

أرّخت هذه القلعة استناداً إلى المصادر التاريخية والحفريات الأثرية التي أكَّدت الروايات التاريخية.

He studied archaeology at the University of Jordan, and history of Islamic art and architecture at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, from where he holds his Ph.D. He was affiliated to the Department of Antiquities of Jordan for most of the period between 1980 and 1999, and was its Director General twice (1988–91 and 1995–9). He was also an associate professor of archaeology at Yarmouk University during the early 1990s. He is the author of numerous publications, including The Umayyads: The Rise of Islamic Art (Brussels: Museum With No Frontiers, 2000), of which he is a co-author. He has carried out excavation work both inside and outside Jordan in sites such as Qasr al-Hallabat, Madaba, Carthage and Bahrain. He is a member of the German Archaeological Institute and is the Deputy Director of the International Council of Museums for the Arab countries.
