Description:

This textile fragment came into the museum’s textile collection through the purchase of textile artefacts negotiated by the Aachen Canon Franz Bock in 1865. The decoration of the fragment consists of stylised flowers and palmettes. During the Middle Ages, valuable mobile artefacts such as textiles arrived from east to west on the trade routes or through the custom of diplomatic gifts. The repertoire of motifs and forms of these textiles reveal the influence of various cultures.
