Description:

Developed in Nishapur, the production of so-called "animated buff ware" was characterised by decoration obtained with liquid clays coloured with green, yellow, purple and manganese, applied on a buff-coloured surface and coated with transparent glaze. The decorations, highly influenced by Sassanid iconography, include figures of horsemen and horses, hunting scenes and fantastical animals and birds, in the midst of a richly decorated space.
