This certificate, a ziyaratname, was made for a pilgrim named Sayyid Yusuf bin Sayyid Shihab al-Din Mawara al-Nahri who undertook the ‘umra. His name and title (sayyid) indicate he was a high member of a Sufi confederation of Transoxiana. Featuring the haram of Mecca, the Prophet’s mosque in Medina and the Dome of the Rock with the Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, it is the unique Medieval example representing the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron and the shrines of Ali and Husayn in Najaf and Karbala.
