This bulbous mina’i vase shows bands of blue pseudo-kufic alternating with fields containing sphinxes and seated courtiers among stylized vegetal stalks in the style of contemporary miniature painting. The decoration combines colours applied before firing and others painted onto the fired glaze and fixed in a second firing, an expensive process.
