Description:

These tiles, purchased from a gallery in Iran in 1938, are said to have come from Julfa, an Armenian suburb of Isfahan, Iran. Indeed, the lively animals (such as ibexes, ducks, tigers, and gazelles) seen on the tiles are typical of underglaze-painted tiles of Julfa. To achieve the sharp, polychrome designs seen on haft-rangi tile, the colored glazes were separated by a black line that prevented the colours from blending together.
