Description:

Each tile of this large stair-shaped panel is ornamented with moulded octagons and partial hexagrams such that one corner is cut out to fit a separate spherical knob. This group of tiles is similar to a well-known group of tiles that once ornamented the exterior of Takht-i Sulaiman (c. 1270), which was the summer palace of the Ilkhanid ruler Abaqa (r. 1265–82). When Doris Duke purchased the tiles in Iran in 1938, they were said to have been excavated from a site called Sanek.
