Description:

A cylindrical tankard with an angular handle, decorated with stems of tulips, hyacinths and other flowers in light blue, green and red on a white background. The vertical stems are gently curved. The edges of the rim and base are bordered with wave patterns. The model of this tankard, taking its inspiration from the art of metalwork of the Balkans, became widespread in Ottoman Turkey in the second half of the AH 10th / AD16th century. This piece may also have been used as a flower vase.

Tankard inspired by the Balkan metalware popularised in Ottoman Turkey in the second half of the AH 10th / AD 16th century. This piece is decorated with bunches of tulips, hyacinths and other flowers in light blue, green and red on a white background.

How date and origin were established:

By stylistic analysis. The broadening of the range of colours with the introduction of red, Armenian bole, indicates production in the second half of the 10th / 16th century.

From the Jeuniette collection, it was purchased through M. Stora & Co. on 10 April 1919.

By expert examination, stylistic and comparative analysis and exhibition catalogues written by international specialists, mentioned in the bibliography.
