Mudéjar Ceramics
'These dishes, with a boss and egg-and-dart motifs in relief, were luxury items.'
One of the most attractive groups of Mudéjar ceramics consists of dishes and braziers, the surfaces of which were completely decorated with geometric and epigraphic patterns, egg-and-dart motifs and curved triangles repeated over and over again, creating a feeling of movement. The originality of the composition, of western origin, is found in the unity of the whole, which is arranged around an imposing central bulge. These dishes, with a boss and egg-and-dart motifs in relief, were produced by casting and were more luxury than practical items.

Geometric motifs from the Hispano-Muslim tradition were mixed with egg-and-dart motifs, derived from Antiquity, and probably inspired by the decoration used on Renaissance-style metal dishes and trays.
