The Muslim West
Court Life
The military entourage
Equalling and occasionally outdoing the pageantry and refinement of the Eastern courts, the monarchs of the Muslim West surrounded themselves with high-ranking, trusted individuals who, like the sovereigns themselves, were players in the courtly ceremonies befitting their greatness, sovereignty and desire to inspire awe in the people.
The chosen few would accompany the sovereign in his public duties, attending official dinners and receptions and assisting with the tasks of government. They were part of the royal entourage when the king travelled, contributing to the admiration he inspired.
