During its greatest expansion, the Mongolian Empire stretched from China to Baghdad. This meant that a mixture of eastern and western pictorial traditions held sway in the Mongolian textile workshops, which makes localisation of textile artefacts difficult. On these dark-blue fragments we see influences from Chinese art in the flowers and animals.
