Description:

The reciprocal relations between China and Europe are reflected in mobile artefacts of the Late Middle Ages, such as textiles. During its greatest expansion, the Mongolian Empire stretched from China to Baghdad. This meant that a mixture of eastern and western pictorial traditions held sway in the Mongolian textile workshops, which makes localisation of textile artefacts difficult. On these dark-blue fragments we see influences from Chinese art in the flowers and animals.
