The latter two motifs form the main decoration at the centre of this large dish, where they are depicted in blue and green, while the cavetto and rim bear green pomegranates alternating with blue sprays of leaves or else tulips. How date and origin were established:Iznik wares with this specific color scheme, sage-green combined with more typical Iznik tones such as blue and turquoise, were produced for only a short period in the middle decades of the 16th century; the earliest dated example is the mosque lamp from Süleyman’s restoration of the Dome of the Rock (British Museum 1887,0516.1) dated Hegira 956 / AD 1549. Madina (1926-2013), New York, until 2002 (sold to); LACMA, The Madina Collection of Islamic Art, gift of Camilla Chandler Frost.
