The Abi Tahir family of Kashan, Iran, is famous for the production of exquisite tilework and ceramic vessels during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The inscription on this frieze is from the Qur’an’s well-known "Throne Verse" (2: 255). The final tile (lower left) is signed by Yusuf. Purchased in New York City, 1940.
