The Museum houses an important collection of early Islamic coins, including Umayyad dinars likes these ones. In AH 77/ AD 696, the ruling caliph Abd al-Malik ordered the issue of a brand new, truly Islamic coinage, carrying mainly qur’anic inscriptions emphasizing the oneness and omnipotence of Allah and confirming Muhammad as the Prophet of God.
