Local artisans profited enormously both from the workshops set up by Crusaders to enable the renovation and restoration programmes to continue, and by the influx of European artefacts into the Levant. Cultural exchange between the new Frankish inhabitants of the kingdom and its urban and rural Muslim communities continued despite the ongoing warfare.
